Summer, fall, spring etc what a gem of a walk. Forget about taking all those maddening walking workshops Just walk. There are breathtaking lakes here and there; skinny dip yourself but not in the winter of course Celebrate simple jewels of life. Celebrate before it all get paved out. But, at the end of the day, cemented hubris are going to be swept away Go, lose yourself in Mount Washington.

Hitch or drive. Just go. And be thankful for it all. We rented a beach house in Buckley Bay to be on Vancouver Island but not to be in the big city. We have been to Victoria and absolutely loved it. But this vacation we wanted to go "boring! When we got to the beach house, the owners gave us a short what to see and where to eat tour. The absolute thing they recommended was a trip o the top of Mt. During the winter, this is an alpine resort with skiing and other winter sports.

Believe it or not, it really doesn't snow on Vancouver Island except in the mountains. But during the summer, the view from the top of the mountain is breathtaking we were told. So this was definitely going to be in our plans. Although the weather forecast for the entire week looked spectacular, when we woke up on Monday and there was not a cloud in the sky we decided Monday was the day to get the great views.

You know how the weather forecast accuracy is, so a bird in the hand! We packed up and got into the car and drove the ocean highway road 19A up to Courtney. Glad we did as there was a mature and an immature bald eagle just sitting on the rocks on one of the beaches up to Courtney. Got out of the car and although the immature eagle flew off, the mature bald eagle stayed and let me walk to within feet without flying away! And with my mm zoom, I could have checked his eyes! This was going to be a great day! We drove through Courtney and then followed the signs to Mt. Washington Alpine Resort.

Just about 15 minutes from Courtney. You went up the mountain at a pretty good grade.

You know it is steep as there are stations to put on your tire chains which are mandatory during snow season. The drive up the mountain provided beautiful views. At the top, you knew it was "Off Season" as everything was closed down and the snow vehicles were all parked in neat rows.

We headed for the lodge, as we could see the chairlift operating. The air was clean and brisk and the lot had a significant number of cars. You know there was no way the lift tickets would have been this cheap during the skiing season!

We walked over to the lift. It seemed as if they liked working there as compared to some of the young people who did the job JUST to make money. The chair operator helped us board the chairlift and off we went. View going up the mountain was not great since all of the scenery was behind you. But we did see some VERY interesting "scenery" about half way up in some of the trees. Oh, to be young again! Once we got to the top and dismounted the chairlift the views were outstanding! It was truly a crystal clear day and you could see for miles and miles!

Do NOT miss this opportunity to go to the top of Mt. Washington in the summer. A few helpful hints.

The bugs will follow you the entire way. I think some of the flies were either gigantic flies or miniature birds! And WHY would there be mosquitoes at the top of the mountain? There are! Bug repellent should definitely be on your list. And lastly, bring fresh cherries or or seed to feed the birds.
