Another reason the collection was pushed back to accommodate an exciting project at my seasonal job with the Colville National Forest. Due to early snow melt we resumed work sooner than expected on a Burned Area Emergency Response Project. I was helping with quality assurance on a aerial mulching project in areas that were severely burned in last year's Stickpin fire in Northeastern Washington. Normally I can keep the ball rolling on my jewelry business with a seasonal job, but with this project I was working 80 hour weeks, so things got a little crazy.
I'm thrilled that the project just wrapped up! Now a nice mat of straw or wood mulch covering steep hillsides to protect our soils from erosion. Through November I am going to be deeply involved with the forest's water quality program, and soil crew, and stream crew, but with a much more normal schedule!
