Work without direction and get scolded frequently. A typical day at work at Fry's varies on how the store is doing and what needs to be done.

Fry’s Electronics- Fremont

One day, it could be literally just cleaning up misplaced product and making the store look better. The next day it could be moving refrigerators, dishwashers, dryers, washers, massage chairs, and all manners of appliances that are specifically denoted on the box as 'team lift' And if you can't get everything stocked up and ready to go for tomorrow by your self, you won't get scolded so much as you will get replaced. At Fry's, I learned a lot about how to take shortcuts when it comes to moving heavy product, and how to make a little bit of work seem like a lot, because if you were caught not doing anything productive after asking for direction and getting no response , you'll get replaced.

As you can tell in the above description of the working environment, the management here is pretty spotty and flip-flops a lot. One day they care a lot, push everyone to get the store together, and try to pump everyone to work, work, work Management can be really understanding of your situations in life, but if it puts them at a disadvantage in any way, "there's nothing we can do, sorry".

That's one of the hard parts of the job, you have to be fully self-sufficient or face the consequences. If you ask them, you'll get the same book of a response to these questions as you're getting now. I can't give the "hardest part of the job" award to dealing with management alone, though. Funny enough, Fry's seems to attract a certain customer base that is rather There are a good handful of customers that will come in, get their stuff, check out, and maybe ask a question or two along the way. There are also a very rare breed that are regulars and will come in with a smile on their face, treat all staff will respect, and generally be a treat to handle.

The hardest part of the job is dealing with rest of the customers we get. In this case, these are the customers that come in looking for a fight or to get something for as close to free as possible. The saddest part is, when one of these customers comes in with something non-returnable or something that is clearly against policy, management will very often back down and break policy just to calm them down if they get even the slightest bit rowdy.

Quite literally all you have to do is raise your voice or threaten to never come back and management will break policy to keep the customer happy. The most enjoyable part of the job was the team that we had before some company changes were made. We had a team of close to 25 people on the merchandising team, and everyone was a giant nerd I mean this in a loving way, of course. The culture around Fry's employees is basically any nerd culture you can think of; Magic The Gathering, Gaming in the casual sense as well as competitively, and tech nerds who are all about computers.

That's what the company founded themselves on, so it would make sense. Was this review helpful? This store is going out of business. Don't bother working here. Originally, I would've given this a solid 4, but since the beginning of this year, the company has taken a turn for the worse. I used to work in the receiving department since I hated dealing with customers and want to avoid doing that, and I almost managed to do that for a full year.

Roughly 3 weeks into January and my store manager pulls me aside to tell me that they're paying too many people back in receiving so he had to move me into a merchandiser position, keeping my same wage as before while I was working back in the other department. Fast forward to last week and I get told because of how bad the company is doing financially I have to get brought down to part-time.

The store hasn't been getting many products in terms of freight, making it harder to stock shelves, making unhappy customers, and making stressed out associates. Now below is a more in-depth version of how I feel right now. One of the things we got told was to pass off customers to a sales associate when they need assistance.

The rest scheduled are merchandisers, expected to try and do their job normally. We've now obtained front checkout responsibilities due to how little employees are working there now. The one thing that agitates me the most is that we get paid unfairly for it, despite being cross-trained in multiple areas out of every other position in the store with the exception being front checkout and receiving. I tried asking for a raise once to the assistant store manager at one point and he said he would think about it, and then never got back to me.

More recently at least a month I want to say before I got the part-time notice , I started getting closing shifts, which I couldn't handle because I took public transit or got a ride if I could, though late at night I wasn't able to find one at times. I asked if I could not have closing shifts and was given the response, "would you like to work part-time? I knew it wasn't his fault, as we've been one of the most successful stores throughout the company from what I've heard in sales. Corporate will occasionally pop in, but they expect us to put on a facade every time they come in rather than show what really happens here.

I find it ridiculous. That and some of them show little respect for store employees. I tried to be friendly with them and for some reason, they seemed upset that I wasn't helping a customer at front checkout when I was still setting up my register. I can go on and on with stories, but I think I've made my point. Up until this point, I've only continued working here because I can still earn a little money, though I can't live like this anymore. I have to find a new job. It's because of corporate not communicating and doing a poor job of managing the products that we sell that put us in the state we're in.

I'm just so done mentally. This job has become mentally taxing and is not good to work at. I will be sad to see this place close down it will, it's only a matter of when at this point from a local standpoint, but I won't be sad to see corporate go away, as they're the ones who put us in this mess. From, a current mentally distressed employee who is looking for a non-retail job.

Started off great but got much worse. Company appears to be going out of business. They cut everyone's hours.
