Well, I had a bit of a comical weekend as my hunting partner Blaine, and I ventured forth for the first all-day ice fishing adventure of the New Year.

I woke up with the sunrise to prepare as I was busy in the archery shop the night before. Besides, in mid-winter, Blaine being part bear likes to practise his hibernating skills. First, as I dug my gear out of the shed, I was proud of myself it was all together. I have a small four foot aluminum snow sled with a heavy duty storage bin attached permanently to the sled. The large bin doubles as a fresh water live well, an asset when I attended all the fish derbies which were strictly catch and release.

The rules state that you have to half a five gallon bucket to carry the live fish. As the fish in these fish derbies have to arrive at the weigh in station alive, great care. I would simply use the bin to carry all my gear in on the sled, then fill up the bin with water and use it as a live well.
