Still a lot shorter than going to Europe and better than sitting on a plane for 16hours to the US. There are no direct flights from Australia to Male. I did not think well that's a surprise there then! Ignore me as I am quite harmless - and useless to boot. I have recently done the journey from Brisbane with SQ and it is a piece of cake.
And of course the baggage gets through. The prices between them and Malaysian are about the same. If you have to catch a seaplane to your Resort make sure you arrive before late afternoon, because they don't go after 5PM. Singapore airlines. Via Singapore - you might do it in one go on the way there.
You basically leave morning time Australia and arrive at 11pm male time. Depends on your hotel - you would want to stay away from overnighting in male and try and get directly to your hotel that night. On the way home I think they have a daylight flight on some days but the regular every day one is a red eye like perth-sydney. Makes plenty of sense to have a stop over in singapore otherwise it is a brutal trip all the way home.

Done it a few times a few different ways. I'm currently sitting in hotel in Malaysia about to board a flight to male tomorrow night.. Best choice for flight times is Singapore airlines. They have night and day flights. Does not cost you extra to make a stop in Singapore.

It's about 8 hrs from Brisbane to Asia then 4 hrs to male. Last time we just did a day flight to Singapore stayed in transit hotel and did the day flight to male. Excellent if you want to arrive fresh.. This Avoids staying overnight in male if you have a seaplane transfer as well You just pick the flights you want! No extra cost to airfare..

But it's only regarded a stop if over 24hrs this will change taxes only slightly. This time we got such a bargain with Malaysia airlines via kuala lumpur. There connection on the way over is bad but most airfares include a free day room at pan pacific hotel or the airline lounge. We decided to just stop here for 3 nights and 3 nights langkawi.
No extra charge. Well our own accomm of course. There is also emirates but it's the long way and often dearer. Only good if u do want that stop in Dubai. We have done that too. Etihad now fly to male too. Again much longer then singapore or Malaysian in flying times.
So no direct flights!! Air Asia was talking about flying to male.. I'm still waiting on that.. No news yet.. We looked at buying air Asia to kl then buy another ticket but it worked out more.
