So if you are planning to go with friends, elderly people, or anyone that is that type of person that complains about everything do not take them there. Time to get there- My best advice on this one is call the park the same day you are going and ask. I stayed in a hotel in Linville the night before.
I had told my husband we needed to be there at 9am because of the reviews of people. He insisted call the park. I called and they said the park had an ok amount of people, but to try to be there by noon. I called at noon minutes before arriving at the park. They said there is a descent amount of people, but the cars are starting to line up. I arrived at 1pm and had no problem like other people have stated. Last- Due to my husband insisting he wanted to see Blowing Rock the attraction not the town.
If you have not decided which to visit, hands down on Grandfather Mountain. We were in an out Blowing Rock in 20 minutes.
Find The Perfect Getaway
There was no Blowing of no Rock. It is just a legend and the nice little summit and nothing else to do or see. Save your money and go to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls, which is free and just beautiful. Thank you for visiting Grandfather Mountain and for taking the time to write a thorough review!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the trip. We ask for honesty from our park guests regarding the ages of your party and hope that we do not have to move away from the honor system in the future. The first time I've used the word "Majestic" without it being part of a song. At 6am from the top of the mountain, the sunrise was pink and the other mountains had hazy fog on them.
It was really something. We rented a vacation home for a week and the whole family enjoyed it. Thank you for visiting! We're glad you enjoyed your mountaintop experience. Not a good place to go when you're on a budget. However, I enjoyed the bridge and the views; it was too cold to do any of the walking trails. The museum has a well-done display and the small petting zoo seemed to fascinate the children there.

Overall, if you don't mind it being a bit of a pricy tourist trap, it offers good views and an educational experience. Thanks for visiting Grandfather Mountain! I'm sorry you found the admission price too high. We feel the admission price is comparable to other similar educational and entertainment venues and provides a good value for those who experience all there is to do at Grandfather Mountain, including the Mile High Swinging Bridge, the Animal Habitats, Nature Museum, naturalist programs, scenic views, picnic areas and hiking trails.
You can feel proud that your contribution has helped the nonprofit Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation to preserve and protect this beautiful natural area for future generations. We hope to see you again! All of you review feedback addresses only the positive things folks are saying. However, many also complain about the price. Yes, the park is fine and the bridge is a major attraction.
The price is just to high! Thanks for visiting Grandfather Mountain. I'm happy to respond to your concerns about admission prices. This is the same law that affected amusement parks, movie theaters, ballparks and other entertainment venues. The remainder is the amount that our Board of Directors believes is necessary to cover our expenses and invest in improvements to the park.
We're very grateful for those who donate to Grandfather Mountain, but admission fees remain the primary revenue source. We are not taxpayer-funded.

At a park of this size, recurring expenses are numerous. They include salaries and benefits for employees, food and supplies for our habitat animals, maintenance and upkeep for our buildings and trails, and much more. As for improvements, just this spring we renovated the otter habitat underwater viewing area to fix cracks and crumbling in the structure. In , the mountain replaced the s-era Top Shop Visitor Center with a new building, which made the bridge wheelchair-accessible for the first time.
These are just a couple of big examples. Since , Grandfather Mountain has been managed and run by the nonprofit Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, so revenue from ticket sales is reinvested in the park, not padding pockets. Many guests find satisfaction in knowing that their ticket sales will preserve and protect this natural area for future generations.
Our leadership believes that the admission price is a good value for those who explore all there is at Grandfather Mountain, including the Mile High Swinging Bridge, the animal habitats, the Nature Museum, naturalist programs, hiking trails, picnic areas and scenic overlooks. Look and compare, and I think you'll find that admission is more affordable at Grandfather Mountain than many other family attractions in the area, state and region. I will certainly share your comments with our directors.
If you have any other questions or specific feedback you'd like us to know, please feel free to contact me at kellen grandfather. If you like views or mile high swinging bridges then go!!! I use to live at the foot of this awesome mountain. It's a beautiful thing. Always down shift your transmission in any down hill mountain trips or you'll burn up your brakes.
Thank you for visiting Grandfather Mountain! I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself! Some pretty phenomenal athletes shot golf balls or whacked baseballs off the mountain in its earlier days, including Billy Joe Patton, along with Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams. You're also right that hang gliders flew from Grandfather Mountain for many years in the 70s and 80s, but that practice also has ended. While it sounds very romantic, I must note that Grandfather Mountain does not permit alcohol consumption inside the park.
We hope it won't turn away you and your special someone. We hope to see you again soon on the mountain! Who would have thought? I walked through the animal display and saw a handicapped eagle and a few deer like the ones in my backyard at home. I looked for the bears in their habitat and l saw them later pacing in their cages.
They had not been released into their habitat and they were pretty upset about that. The otter display was drained of water so no swimming otters to observe. Didn't see any cougars.
